Indian cricket officials revealed their 15-man roster for the Twenty20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday, April 30. The tournament will take place in the United States and the West Indies in June.
Hardik Pandya has been appointed vice-captain, and Rohit Sharma will retain his position as team leader. It was said that Virat Kohli’s spot on the team was uncertain. But now that India’s former captain is back in the lineup, he’ll be eager to assist his country win the ICC trophy for the first time in eleven years.
However, a spot in the team has opened up for Rishabh Pant, who made his professional cricket return during the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after a 14-month absence. The alternate wicketkeeper in the lineup is Sanju Samson. Unfortunately, the seasoned KL Rahul will not be part of the 15-man roster.

Consistent performances throughout the 2024 IPL have won the spots of the seasoned Yuzvendra Chahal and the nimble Shivam Dube. With the exception of skipper Rohit, the only specialist opening hitter picked to the squad is Yashasvi Jaiswal. On the other hand, the team’s three pace specialists are Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj.
Spin bowlers Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are the team’s all-arounders. In addition to Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav is the second spinner who plays on the front line. As a result, the finale could see a reunion of the ‘Kul-Cha’ cast. In addition to the first fifteen players, the Rohit Sharma–led squad has picked four substitutes. The reserves include Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.
Among the four substitutes, Rinku will feel the most unlucky. Before the Indian Premier League, he had an outstanding performance for the Men in Blue in the shorter version of the game. In fifteen Twenty20 Internationals, the left-handed batsman scored 356 runs at an astounding strike rate of 176.24 and an average of 89. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders’ top-order hitters have been on fire in IPL 2024, so he hasn’t had many opportunities to prove himself.
